Cookie Policy

This Cookie Policy is drafted in accordance with Article 22.2 of Spanish Law 34/2002 (LSSI-CE) and the Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) Cookie Guide, 2023 edition. It explains every cookie and equivalent storage technology used by Fair Divider, including what is stored on your device, why, and for how long.
1. What is a Cookie?
A cookie is a small text file that a website stores on your device to recognize it on subsequent visits. The same legal regime applies to equivalent technologies: localStorage, sessionStorage, IndexedDB, the Cache API, and so on. This policy treats them all together.
2. Advertising and Optional Analytics Cookies
Fair Divider does not use:
- Cookies for advertising targeting or profiling
- Tracking pixels or web beacons for advertising targeting
- Third-party cookies for profiling or targeted advertising
- Social-network sharing cookies
The Fair Divider website does use two optional analytics tools — Google Analytics 4 and Microsoft Clarity — to understand aggregate usage and improve the Service. The cookies they set are not strictly necessary: they are disabled by default and are stored only after you opt in through the consent chooser. You can withdraw consent at any time via the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of the Fair Divider app, and withdrawing is as easy as giving consent. These cookies are listed in section 3.4 (note that Microsoft Clarity may also set Microsoft-wide cookies, e.g. MUID, used across Microsoft services for analytics measurement — not for advertising targeting); the legal basis, processors (Google Ireland Limited and Microsoft Ireland Operations Limited), international transfers and retention are set out in our Privacy Policy.
Every other cookie and storage entry we use is strictly necessary to provide the Service and is therefore exempt from prior consent under Article 22.2 LSSI-CE.
3. Detailed Inventory
3.1. Own cookies

3.4. Optional analytics cookies (only set after you opt in)
The cookies below are set only if you choose "Accept" in the cookie sheet. They are not set if you choose "Reject". If you later withdraw consent through "Cookie settings" in the footer, we delete_ga, _ga_<id>, _clck and _clsk straight away and tell Google and Microsoft that consent is withdrawn; cookies set by Microsoft on its own domains (CLID, MUID, ANONCHK) can only be removed from your browser settings. Withdrawing stops future collection; it does not erase data Google and Microsoft already hold (see section 7 of the Privacy Policy). Google Analytics starts with every consent signal denied and moves analytics storage to granted only after you press Accept; advertising signals stay denied. Clarity masks the content of input boxes and drop-down menus in every masking mode, and we additionally apply Clarity's element-level masking to the calculator surfaces, so participant names, item descriptions and amounts are not uploaded. Google and Microsoft act as our data processors for these cookies. Data may be processed outside the EEA under the EU Standard Contractual Clauses and/or the EU-US Data Privacy Framework. Standard retention is approximately 14 months for Google Analytics and approximately 90 days for Microsoft Clarity. See the Privacy Policy for full details.
3.5. iOS and Android apps
The native Fair Divider apps do not use cookies, because they are not a browser. They do store information on your device, subject to the same Article 22.2 LSSI-CE regime as equivalent technology: the state of the division in progress and the owner token, which are strictly necessary, and, while the apps' analytics switch is on, the preference itself. The apps' analytics runs with every Google Analytics for Firebase consent signal permanently denied, so it stores and reads no identifier on the device and sends identifier-free pings. That analytics is on by default in the apps, can be turned off at any time in the info menu, and is described in section 14 of the Privacy Policy. You can erase everything stored on the device by following the steps in Account & Data Deletion.
4. Consent and the Cookie Chooser
Strictly necessary cookies and storage (sections 3.1–3.3) are exempt from prior consent under Article 22.2 LSSI-CE and the AEPD 2023 Cookie Guide, so they load without asking. The cookie sheet records that it has been answered in thefd-accepted cookie, whichever option you pick. On your first visit the sheet stays on screen until you press Accept or Reject; both give full access to the Service. This sheet never blocks this Cookie Policy, the Privacy Policy, the Terms, the Legal Notice, the Accessibility statement, Data Deletion or Support.
Because the website also offers optional analytics (section 3.4), we present a cookie sheet on your first visit. You can choose "Accept" (strictly necessary + analytics) or "Reject" (strictly necessary only); analytics stays off unless you accept. Your choice is stored in the fd-analytics entry, with its date in fd-consent-at, and we ask again after 12 months. You can change it at any time through the "Cookie settings" link in the footer of the Fair Divider app (the calculator pages) — withdrawing consent is as easy as giving it.
5. How to Manage or Delete Cookies and Storage
- Chrome / Edge: Settings → Privacy and security → Cookies and other site data.
- Safari: Settings → Privacy → Manage Website Data.
- Firefox: Settings → Privacy & Security → Cookies and Site Data.

Disabling all cookies and storage will prevent the Service from functioning correctly: you will not be able to create or join rooms.
6. Changes to This Policy
If the inventory above changes, we will update this page and the "Last updated" date.
8 August 2026 → 7 September 2026: section 3.3 now lists fd-theme and fd-lang, the two preference entries that record your chosen theme and language. Both were already in use and neither was documented.
7 September 2026 → 1 October 2026: the cookie sheet now reads "Accept" / "Reject" and stays on screen until you choose, without blocking the legal pages; the choice is asked again after 12 months (new entry fd-consent-at); section 3.3 lists the entries behind the MakeRoutes card; section 3.4 describes the consent-mode sequence and what withdrawing does and does not delete.
